Georgia Veterans State Park - Cordele, Georgia

Updated: Dec 24, 2023

Georgia Veterans State Park (originally the Georgia Veterans Memorial State Park) is a state park located on Lake Blackshear in Crisp County, west of Cordele, Georgia. It was established on December 4, 1946 as a memorial to U.S. Veterans. The 1,308-acre park features a museum with aircraft, vehicles, weapons, uniforms and other memorabilia dating from the Revolutionary War to the present.

Other attractions include 8,600-acre Lake Blackshear, a privately operated conference center and golf club and the SAM Shortline Excursion Train, which runs from Cordele to Plains.

Conversations/Things we learned:

This park is connected directly to the Lake Blackshear Resort and golf club. It’s a good park for a day trip and for boating and camping. As for hiking, this park doesn‘t have much to offer with really only one decent but small trail.

The park also offers a nice military museum and military equipment display (aircraft and tanks). The museum is very small but well created. But again, visiting this park is a day-trip and would be excellent for school tours.
